Meg and Justin’s Fun Asheville Wedding at Hidden River Events

August 19, 2009 | News, Photography, Weddings | 5 comments

Fun, games, family, friends, love and style: what more could you ask for in a wedding? Meg and Justin were married July 11th at the beautiful Hidden River Events in Swannanoa, NC. Meg is one of our greatest Super Fans, excited and enthusiastic about our studio’s output before, during, and after her gorgeous event. We absolutely LOVED shooting Photos and Cinema for her wedding. If you’re looking for some interesting ideas for planning a wedding, Meg and Justin have some great tips. From the design of the day with an amazing color palette to the beautiful flowers by Flora, the event was striking! Games like corn hole, ladder golf, bocce ball and a photo booth by Asheville Photo Booth kept the guests swinging all day and night. Thanks to all the great vendors, including Rev. Susie Greene-Wright for making it official, our awesome associates: Jen and Spencer, and of course the lovely couple. Enjoy some of these images and keep a look out for the highlight video. Remember to also check out their engagement photo + video session from the spring.

Asheville Weddings – Lisa and Ben

August 19, 2009 | Photography, Weddings | No comments

You may remember Lisa and Ben from the their engagement photo + video session. Their wedding ceremony was at the magnificent Basilica of St. Lawrence in downtown Asheville. After the lovely ceremony we headed to The Vault for some drinks and a classy photo session with Lisa and Ben!

Many thanks to Asheville Historic Trolley for toting us all around to all our destinations, the final one being The Venue where the reception was held; what a great time!

Pan American 943 Rescue

August 12, 2009 | News | 1 comment

I wanted to share this fascinating story with you all. It’s a piece of history that my grandfather, Richard L. Brown, was involved in. He was the navigator on the flight crew of Pan American 943.

On October 16, 1956, PanAm flight 943 (Sovereign of the Skies) developed engine trouble while flying from Hawaii to San Francisco. Two of the four engines failed and the flight crew had to make an emergency water landing in the Pacific Ocean.

You can watch a short film documenting this incredible ditching and rescue by the PanAm flight crew and the United States Coast Guard ship, the Pontchartrain. It was a successful ditching – all 31 people on board the flight were rescued after the plane hit the water and snapped in half.

My mom saw these photographs and film for the first time just last month. Since my grandparents are no longer living, it is very special to her and our family that these historical images surfaced.

The first two photos are of my grandparents, Richard and Lorraine Brown, taken just after the Pontchartrain returned to land.
