Laura and Robert’s Biltmore Estate Wedding – Photojournalist Style

September 17, 2010 – 1 comment

Here is a Biltmore Estate wedding we shot earlier this summer that never got a “teaser” blog post. ::gasp:: Since there are lots of wonderful photos from this wedding we will start you off with just a few.

There are so many aspects of wedding photography that make us jump out of our chairs with joy. One part of the thrill is the photojournalist style – also referred to as candid shots or “natural moments.” There is nothing posed or staged about these types of photos and typically the subjects are unaware their photo is being taken. And this isn’t a paparazzi scenario where we are hiding in a van taking snapshots of guests from afar; people are aware there are photographers at the wedding.

Whether it be children playing games, grandparents dancing, or the bride and groom having a moment during the ceremony, it’s these moments that reveal the true essence and emotions of people without a photographer’s direction or interference. So here are a few photo-journalistic images from Laura and Robert’s Biltmore Estate wedding. Check back next week for a full write-up and more photos from this wedding!

We hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. For most of us it’s the last official weekend of summer, so enjoy it!

North Carolina Wedding Photography – Devin and Chris

August 18, 2010 – 5 comments

We had a great time capturing Devin and Chris’ wedding photography in North Carolina at The Farm near Asheville. We were both happy and impressed by their commitment to have a green wedding. Nearly everything was locally produced. Laurey’s Catering served local, sustainably grown foods that are in season, and guests enjoyed locally brewed Highland Beers.

One of the coolest aspects of this North Carolina wedding was the floral arrangements. Aria Floral, who specializes in sustainable floral design, used beautiful wooden boxes made from reclaimed vintage barn wood for the centerpieces, which included divine succulents mixed with local wildflowers and decadent calla lilys. At the end of the night, the centerpieces were re-potted and given to guests to take home and plant.

By mixing bold colors like hot pink with dusty blues and silvers, and adding design elements such as vintage lanterns and mossy table scapes, the bride really captured a modern, mountain vibe. It was truly beautiful!

A huge thanks and kudos to Asheville Event Co. for planning this one and keeping us in the loop the day of. They did an exceptional job and things ran so smoothly! The exuberant Tim Lolley officiated the ceremony and made the marriage official, and musicians Current Invention played an array of music that sounded amazing. And for dessert? A delicious cake prepared by Short Street Cakes.

Be sure to check out all the western North Carolina wedding vendors involved, and enjoy the photography from this perfect wedding day in Asheville!

Asheville Wedding Photographers at The Arboretum – Amanda’s Bridal

October 26, 2009 – 3 comments

Here are a few photos from Amanda’s lovely bridal photo session. Being Asheville wedding photographers, we were on our home turf shooting at the locations we did. We started at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville, NC and then got a few photos on the Blue Ridge Parkway at sunset. We love shooting landscapes and nature photography on our beautiful Parkway so it was a lot of fun to have a bride complimenting the scenery. Amanda was fantastic on her bridal session, as was her mom who came along with us. Sometimes wedding photographers just need an awesome mom to assist on a photography shoot!

Her wedding was last week in Maggie Valley so we are now able to share these with you! We admit… when we shoot a bridal weeks (or months) before a wedding and can’t show them off right away, we get impatient. But we always wait because you never know if the groom might start snooping online or on our blog :)

We had a great time working with the natural sunlight at The Arboretum in Asheville. Wedding photographers and brides have asked about the first two photos and how we did that. It’s no trickery, just the sun directly behind her creating a cool “flare”. We love using natural lighting in addition to creative flash techniques. We use what we got and use what we bring. Lighting is such a crucial part of our profession and we enjoy using it and controlling it on all types of shoots.
