Claxton Farm Wedding Event

January 24, 2012 – 13 comments

Alyson and Alex’s Claxton Farm Wedding rehearsal dinner was so enjoyable that we just had to share the photos. Claxton Farm has recreation and games for guests, from corn hole to horseshoes and a good ole fashioned bonfire for makin’ S’mores. For those under-rock dwellers, that’s a roasted marshmallow and Hershey’s bar smothered between graham crackers. Yum! Also you can’t ignore the beautiful animals on the grounds such as ponies, llamas, and cows. It’s the perfect mountain vibe for those who want a rustic wedding venue in Asheville, NC.

We’ll be sharing their wedding shortly on our blog. We got to work with Weddings with Tara, Blush by Wendy and other talented folks!

Vintage South Carolina Wedding – Leanna & Kenny

December 2, 2011 – Leave a comment

Sometimes “love” is all you can say. And we love everything about this wedding: the adorable bride & groom, the vintage DIY details, the energy of the dance floor, and so much more. Leanna and Kenny had a backyard wedding in South Carolina with details that had personal meaning to them. Here is a blurb from Leanna:

“We used wedding photos of our family members throughout the décor to connect our wedding and marriage to the history and heritage of everyone that came before us. I chose to honor my mother, who died when I was a teenager, with a small display of her wedding portrait and some of her favorite books. Kenny and I were both English majors and lovers of literature so we used books in all of our décor, including the boutonnieres and garlands made from book pages. The books in our centerpieces were collected by my mother or passed down from other relatives. All of the glass bottles and other antiques were also gathered from family members.”

Family was a huge aspect of this wedding. The ceremony was in the backyard of her parents’ home where both Leanna’s father and his brothers had their weddings. It was conducted entirely by family members as well, from the officiants to the music. And how about that amazing, rustic doorway to the ceremony site?! That was built by her uncles.

The reception was non-stop dancing craziness. Everyone danced the night away in a campground pavilion that was originally built by Leanna’s grandfather and later restored by her father. They ended the night with a contra dance and Leanna said “Dancing while surrounded by all of the people we love was such a special way to start our marriage.”

Asheville Wedding – Jen & Phil

November 11, 2011 – 14 comments

We thought we’d showcase some monochromatic goodness for this post. We love black and white photography and thought this wedding worked well in this style.

Jen and Phil were married at The Farm in Asheville, NC. It was an energetic crowd with local guests from Asheville and also across the US. You know the clients must be cool if they play Paul Simon’s “You Can Call Me Al” during the reception dancing.

Thanks to these fine vendors for helping bring the details, sounds, and food together: Events by Kiersa, Aria Floral, Bright Light DJ, Mark Guest, and Colorful Palette.

Nevada City, California Wedding – Jen & Mike

November 3, 2011 – 2 comments

Have we ever told you how much we love to travel for weddings? Taking the journey with cameras in hand to Nevada City, CA was no exception.  Some of the kindest, most genuine people inhabit this beautiful little town nestled in the foothills of Gold Country. Jen and Mike’s family and friends surrounded them as they prepared for their day at two historic inns set in the small town of Nevada City. Jen prepared for the wedding in the lovely Parsonage bed and breakfast while Mike got ready just down the street at The Outside Inn. Nevada City has such a fascinating history which is evident every where you go, including the chapel where they said their vows, St. Canice. After witnessing the heart-warming ceremony, the guests split up to eat lunch and reconvene later that evening for the reception. The portraits that followed lunch was at the awe inspiring Crystal Hermitage Gardens at Ananda Village. Can you imagine a more lovely spot to take your wedding day portraits? Tulips, cherry trees and mountain views were just a part of the recipe that made this beautiful couple so easy to photograph. Jen looked absolutely stunning in her dress which was reborn from her Mother’s own wedding dress. Doesn’t she look like an angel in that first photo?

The reception took place at an old Gold Foundry in the center of Nevada City which is now the Miners Foundry Cultural Center. An old-timey group of musicians played bluegrass and mountain music as the guests danced the contra while whooping and hollering into the night. Delicious appetizer dishes, drinks and desserts adorned the hall on all sides making it one tasty evening. It was an absolute pleasure traveling to California to capture their wedding photography!

The next day we spent a lovely sunny afternoon in the Wedding Orchard. What is a wedding orchard you ask? We just love this idea! You get your closest friends and family together and plant fruit trees. Everyone chose which variety of fruit they wanted to be represented by, and then planted the trees with help from the resident botanical expert, Michael Many Blessings.  As you can probably see from the photos, this was no easy task but worth every bead of sweat in the end. What fruit tree are you?
