Two Ring Studios is owned and operated by Galen McGee and Derek Olson. Both of us received B.A.’s in Multimedia Arts from the University of North Carolina Asheville. Our education allows us to pursue our passion as visual artists, photojournalists, and designers.
Two Ring Studios is a proud member of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Galen and Derek also both belong to the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).
Derek Olson
I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Asheville, North Carolina 8 years ago. I love it here – it’s where I developed my passion for photography. My education provided me the opportunity to pursue my dreams, and I have to thank my parents for the encouragement and guidance over the years.
I enjoy photographing nature, children, city scenes and of course, weddings. It gives me great pleasure to capture an image I know the couple will cherish forever. I absolutely love my job!
Another joy of mine is playing guitar, which I started doing when I was 15. Also, I am semi-addicted to sweet tea. It’s just really good.

Galen McGee
I’ve been lucky to live in several wonderful places, including New Orleans and for a brief time, Australia. I was down under just long enough to know I want to return some day with my cameras. I love to travel and thoroughly enjoy the pleasure and wonder of capturing the world through a camera lens. I’m delighted that photography and travel go so well together and look forward to many more moments on the road.
I settled in Asheville ten years ago, and I’m thrilled to call it home. For fun I hike and bike our Blue Ridge and enjoy the fresh mountain air. When I’m not outdoors, I’m enjoying music both as a recording enthusiast and as a musician. Combining my photography with music is a special joy.
