Two Ring Studios is owned and operated by Galen McGee and Derek Olson. Both of us received B.A.’s in Multimedia Arts from the University of North Carolina Asheville. Our education allows us to pursue our passion as visual artists, photojournalists, and designers.

Galen and Derek are both award winning members of the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).

What is photography to me? It’s creating. It’s a louder voice for this quiet introvert. It’s spontaneous. It’s adapting to my surroundings. It’s skill, sometimes luck. It’s learning something new everyday, about myself and the medium. It’s capturing a single moment that can’t be recreated, or undone. Photography is a feeling that I can’t explain. It is my passion and I love every second.

I have been living in Asheville, NC for 10 years. I grew up in Baltimore, MD and relocated here in the mountains where I attended college (UNCA) and received a BA in Multimedia Arts. I recently got engaged and am planning my wedding with my fiancé & best friend, Kristi. Having documented many weddings, I’m looking forward to experiencing my own!

My other best friends are my cat, Pierre, and my dog, Cassius. They both have ridiculously cute personalities.

I’ve been lucky to live in several wonderful places, including New Orleans and for a brief time, Australia. I was down under just long enough to know I want to return some day with my cameras. I love to travel and thoroughly enjoy the pleasure and wonder of capturing the world through a camera lens. I’m delighted that photography and travel go so well together and look forward to many more moments on the road.

I settled in Asheville ten years ago, and I’m thrilled to call it home. For fun I hike and bike our Blue Ridge and enjoy the fresh mountain air. When I’m not outdoors, I’m enjoying music both as a recording enthusiast and as a musician. Combining my photography with music is a special joy.
